Spring Clean-up and Plantings at Bull Pond and Meadowview, 2017

This spring, the Harwinton Land Trust held two work parties to plant trees and shrubs at its Bull Pond Preserve and Meadowview properties. At Bull Pond, plantings were done to help restore the area that had been devastated by the 2009 windstorm. Blueberry bushes and mountain laurels were planted along the pond edge to provide a naturalized shoreline, while oaks were planted away from the pond for reforestation purposes.

At Meadowview, blueberry and winterberry bushes were planted near the parking area for aesthetic enhancements, and for providing a good food source for song birds. Hemlocks were also planted to provide a visual buffer between a 150 ft section of trail and a nearby private property. At Bull Pond and Meadowview, rhododendrons were planted next to the Trust’s trail head signs. The plantings should provide long-term improvements to both areas.
