High Meadow

High Meadow is 6 acres in size. It was the Harwinton Land Trust’s first acquisition of land, having been donated by Stanley Lesser in 1980. It is located at the corner of Birge Park Road and Lake Harwinton Road, near the border of Torrington.

The property is entirely wetlands. The Land Trust sees no need to develop public use, but occasionally performs roadside litter pickups to keep the area clean. The property’s wetland is important because it helps to protect the West Branch of Leadmine Brook by retaining pollutants and silt that enter from its heavily developed watershed.

Thomaston Savings Bank in 2015 for a grant to obtain a professional survey of the property’s southern border.
